I've always wanted to try astrophotography. I have a 16-35L but I don't think the f/4.0 is going to cut it. Probably not, especially if you want to limit to ISO 1600. I've seen milky way photos with the 24 f/1.4 and they look amazing. Be aware that a very large part of getting amazing astro shots is in the post processing.

The Canon 10-18mm IS STM is the world's first reasonably-priced ultrawide lens. It works only on Canon's APS-C digital cameras. Not only is it the world's least expensive, it's super light weight, and is also optically superb. There is no sharper ultrawide lens for APS-C cameras, and it's much better than Canon's 10-year-old EF-S 10-22mm that
Canon does make a couple wide angle primes like the 24mm Macro and 16mm f/2.8 STM, but they are trying to do different things. Canon’s 28mm f/2.8 is a New Pancake Lens for RF-Mount.
Canon RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM at BHPhoto for $2,299. The new lens only zooms to 20mm at the long end, rather than 24mm on the prior model, though it does go slightly wider to 10mm rather than 11mm. This is a welcome tradeoff, as most people looking to buy this optic will likely have access to a 24mm focal length (with a lens like the Canon RF 24
